In early 2020 I was approached by AD Derek George at University of Texas Press to work on the design for their latest series, 21st Century Film Essentials, a series that “offers a lively chronicle of cinema’s second century, examining the landmark films of our ever-changing moment.” To complete the package, I designed both the cover and interior designs, including paperback design and interior specs.

Centra No.2, a readable and attractive geometric sans serif, proved perfect for this series on the 21st century. Most importantly, the letters are legible and look appealing at any title length, whether four letters or four lines. The wide movie stills helped dictate the design, resulting in repeated images, echoing the structure of an old filmstrip. The modern imagery paired with bright and energetic colors helps cement the design in the present time.
